INSIDES - DAY 2 (Story)

Woke up today, checked my tweets and noticed my friends tweet:

@clownyX #motiongraphics are one thing & #film is another, together its like a marriage, for the most: shiny outside, empty inside. Nothing to say?

And true, I felt something is missing with my motion design piece. The story. From the book called Do The Work, he tells us that to have a meeting with yourself two times per week and ask these questions:

What is the damn thing about? What is its theme? Is every element serving that theme?

First thought, yeah, isn’t the purpose to get more work? But that is the wrong answer, it’s the piece itself. Give it life!

Insides. It’s not your intestines and organs the name hints to. It’s what you have inside of you in form of creativity, art, ideas – those high quality things that has meaning, feels important and you can never get from asking someone else. When you really have a discussion with yourself, when it feels like your talking to your own heart. That’s when interesting things happen.

Next part in the creative process is to fill in the gaps.

What’s missing?

I started setting up for animations yesterday, but it was difficult to start because I didn’t know the story or the message. From the looks of the album cover, I could make it like all those motion graphics is inspiration and creativity that comes from your “Insides”. The female model, which was first put there because I wanted something interesting to look at. But yeah, it would be shallow without meaning and depth. She will first look around the world and get bombarded by entertainment from TV, Internet and other peoples jabber. That will lock her into passivity. Then she closes her eyes to the world, and starts to communicate with her own heart. This leads to an outburst of creativity in the form of art, design, ideas, etc.

So now I have a story and a message to tell. That should make things easier for the rest of the week. Maybe I will add text to make the story clearer too. We will see…
